Immigration Rhetoric of The Norwegian Progress Party After the 2011 Norway Terror Attacks

Abstract:

The goal of this Bachelor´s Thesis has been to analyse the position of the Norwegian Progress Party to issues of the migration after the terrorist attacks in 2011. Following the attacks, the party has attenuated its anti-immigration rhetoric. Thus, this research work tries to reveal whether the party maintains its moderate position to immigrants to date or returned to its strict anti-immigration approach. To reach this goal, I have selected the content analysis method, whereby I have analyzed the party´s outputs from two periods, shortly after the attacks in 2011 and at present. By comparing the results of the analysis, it has been found that in the case of the Progress Party, there has been a change in its position and the party currently maintains a more radical immigration policy than during the period following the terrorist attacks. Finally, the Thesis presents potential causes explaining why the Progress Party has changed its position to immigrants.

Abstract:

Cieľom tejto bakalárskej práce bola analýza postoja nórskej Progresívnej strany k otázkam migrácie po teroristických útokoch v roku 2011. Po týchto útokoch strana zmiernila svoju protiimigračnú rétoriku a táto výskumná práca sa tak snaží odhaliť, či si strana umiernený postoj k prisťahovalcom zachováva dodnes alebo sa vrátila k svojmu tvrdému antiimigračnému prístupu. Na dosiahnutie tohto cieľa som zvolil metódu obsahovej analýzy, ktorou som analyzoval výstupy strany v dvoch obdobiach, krátko po útokoch v roku 2011 a v súčasnej dobe. Porovnaním výsledkov analýzy bolo zistené, že v prípade Progresívnej strany došlo k postojovej zmene a strana v súčasnej dobe zastáva radikálnejšiu imigračnú politiku ako v období po teroristických útokoch. V závere práce sú predstavené potenciálne príčiny, vysvetľujúce prečo Progresívna strana zmenila svoj postoj voči imigrantom.
