The Concept of an Environmentally-friendly Hotel from Natural Materials

Abstract:

The bachelor thesis deals with ecological hotels that are environmentally-friendly and try to minimize negative impacts on the environment. The ecological hotels in their conception apply green management which focuses mainly on reducing water consumption, energy, chemicals, reducing noise and emissions, reducing waste, using natural resources and saving building areas. The main aim of this thesis is to create a concept of an environmentally-friendly hotel with a restaurant oriented to ecology and protection of the environment. The bachelor thesis is divided into three parts. The content of the first theoretical-methodological part is the characteristics and defining the terms such as ecotourism, ecohotel, green management and its phases, certification of the ecological hotels, ecological labels of hotels, the zero waste system and the content of concepts such as green buildings, their certifications and natural materials. The second analytical part is based on the description of already implemented research in the USA dealing with the attitudes of guests to the ecological hotels. There is also a brief comparison of the two oldest ecological hotels – one in the Czech Republic and the other one in the Slovak Republic. This is followed by an analysis, description and evaluation of our own research, the aim of which was to find out the current attitudes of the Czech and Slovak guests to ecohotels and protection of the environment. The third and last, design part contains the proposal of the concept of an ecological hotel made of natural materials, with a restaurant and with the application of green management, oriented towards ecology and protection of the environment. The design of an ecological hotel concept can be a positive motivation not only for ecological hotel guests themselves to apply environmental protection elements in their homes and everyday lives, but also for conventional hotels which can reduce their operating costs by imposing ecological measures and thus contributing to protection of the environment and sustainable development.

Abstract:

Bakalárska práca sa zaoberá ekologickými hotelmi, ktoré sú šetrné k životnému prostrediu a snažia sa minimalizovať negatívne vplyvy na životné prostredie. Ekologické hotely vo svojom koncepte aplikujú tzv. green management, ktorý sa orientuje hlavne na znižovanie spotreby vody, energie, chemických prostriedkov, znižovanie hluku a emisií, redukciu tvorby odpadov, využívanie prírodných zdrojov a úsporu stavebných plôch. Hlavným cieľom bakalárskej práce je vytvoriť návrh konceptu ekologického hotela s reštauráciou, orientovaného na ekológiu a ochranu životného prostredia. Bakalárska práca je rozdelená do troch častí. Obsahom prvej teoreticko-metodologickej časti je charakteristika a vymedzenie pojmov ekoturizmus, ekohotel, green management a jeho fázy, certifikácie ekologických hotelov, ekologické označenia hotelov, systém zero waste a obsah pojmov zelené budovy, ich certifikácie a prírodné materiály. Druhá analytická časť vychádza z popisu už realizovaného výskumu v USA, ktorý sa zaoberá postojmi hostí k ekologickým hotelom. V tejto časti sa nachádza aj stručné porovnanie dvoch najstarších ekologických hotelov – jedného v Českej a druhého v Slovenskej republike. Nasleduje analýza, popis a vyhodnotenie vlastného výskumu, ktorého cieľom bolo zistiť aktuálne postoje českých a slovenských hostí k ekohotelom a ochrane životného prostredia. Posledná, tretia návrhová časť obsahuje samotný návrh konceptu ekologického hotela z prírodných materiálov, s reštauráciou, s aplikáciou green managementu, orientovaného na ekológiu a ochranu životného prostredia. Návrh konceptu ekologického hotela môže byť pozitívnou motiváciou nielen pre samotných hostí ekologických hotelov, aby aj vo svojich domácnostiach a vo svojom bežnom živote aplikovali prvky ochrany životného prostredia, ale aj pre bežné hotely, ktoré zavedením ekologických opatrení môžu znížiť svoje prevádzkové náklady a tým rovnako prispievať k ochrane životného prostredia a trvalo udržateľného rozvoja.
