Representation of women in politics: analysis of regional elections in 2016 in terms of women's representation

Abstract:

Cílem bakalářské práce je analýza zastoupení žen v České republice na úrovni krajů. Na základě volebních výsledků je sledován vývoj podílu žen ve volených orgánech jednotlivých vyšších územně samosprávných celků. V teoretické části jsou představeny hlavní teorie politické reprezentace, zejména s ohledem na postavení žen. V empirické části se poté práce zaměřuje primárně na přímo volená zastupitelstva a vývoj zastoupení žen od prvního ustavení krajských zastupitelstev v roce 2000 až do současnosti se snahou detailně analyzovat zejména zastoupení žen po posledních krajských volbách v roce 2016 a vlivu, jaký na zastoupení žen mohl mít úspěch nových stran a zda jejich úspěch přinesl proměnu konkrétních trendů v reprezentaci žen.

Abstract:

The aim of the bachelor thesis is to analyze women´s representation in the Czech Republic at the regional level. Based on election results, the development of the proportion of women in the elected bodies of individual higher territorial self-governing units is monitored. The theoretical part introduces the main theories of political representation, especially with regard to the position of women. In the empirical part, the thesis is primarily focused on the directly elected councils and the development of the representation of women from the first establishment of regional councils in 2000 to the present. The thesis is trying to analyze in detail the representation of women after the last regional elections in 2016, the influence that the success of the new parties could have had on women's representation, and whether their success brought about the transformation of concrete trends in the representation of women.
