Analysis of chosen factors influencing the decision about educational level in the Czech Republic

Abstract:

Absolventy vysokých škol čeká oproti absolventům nižších stupňů vzdělání ve většině případů lepší budoucnost nejen co se týče platových podmínek, ale i postavení ve společnosti. Přesto ne všichni absolventi sekundárního vzdělávání nastoupí automaticky na dráhu terciárního vzdělávání. Proto se tato bakalářská práce zabývá vybranými faktory, které mohou mít vliv na rozhodnutí jednotlivce, zda absolvuje vysokoškolskou úroveň vzdělání, či nikoliv. Po teoretické stránce stojí především na dílech a článcích Garyho S. Beckera a Jacoba Mincera, na analýze lidského kapitálu a také na dokumentech, ročenkách a datech OECD a Českého statistického úřadu. Pro účely empirického ověření dat z České republiky je použita metoda regresní analýzy a test hypotézy o shodě dvou středních hodnot. Cílem práce bylo zjistit, zda a jak vybrané zkoumané proměnné ovlivňují výše zmiňované rozhodnutí jednotlivce o účasti na terciárním vzdělávání a interpretovat naměřené výsledky v kontextu relevantních teorií. V podmínkách České republiky nebyl prokázán vliv některých exogenních proměnných na endogenní proměnnou (i když v některých zahraničních studiích je tento vliv prokazatelný). I tak však vedly některé výsledky k zajímavému zjištění a ukázaly možné faktory, které vstupují do lidského rozhodování.

Abstract:

The graduates of universities in most cases will have better future than the graduates of lower levels of education not only in terms of higher wages, but also social status in broader sense. In spite of this not all graduates of secondary education choose to continue in tertiary education. That is why this bachelor work deals with chosen factors, that could have the impact on the individual's choice about tertiary educational level. Theoretical part mainly stands upon the publications and papers of Gary S. Becker and Jacob Mincer, on the human capital analysis and also on the documents, annual reports and data of OECD and Czech Statistical Office. For purposes of empirical check we use the data from the Czech Republic. To answer our question we use the method of regression analysis and the test of hypothesis about equality of two mean values. The goal of this paper was to find out if and how the chosen variables influence the individual's decision to graduate the tertiary education mentioned above, and to interpret measured outcomes in the context of the relevant theories. In the Czech Republic setting we have not found evidence that exogenous variables have significant impact on endogenous variable (even thought in some foreign papers this impact was evidence). However some outcomes led to interesting findings and showed possible factors entering to human decisions.
