Modeling of Erosion Impacts on the Terrain

Abstract:

This thesis looks into the modeling of erosion impacts on the terrain. It proposes a hydraulic erosion method that allows the work with a fully 3D terrain. The fluid is represented as a set of particles, this representation allows to limit the computation only to the regions, where the fluid is present. When the fluid collides with the terrain, which is represented as a triangle mesh, erosion or deposition takes place. The eroded sediment is carried by the particles. During the modification of the mesh an inconsistency can be created; a solution to this problem is suggested in the work but it is not yet successfully implemented due to the issues of numerical imprecisions of floating point calculations.

Abstract:

Tato práce se zabývá modelováním vlivu eroze na terén. Konkrétně se zabývá hydraulickou erozí a navrhuje metodu, která umožňuje práci s plně 3D terénem. Kapalina je reprezentována pomocí částic, tato reprezentace umožňuje omezit výpočty pouze na oblasti, kde se kapalina nachází. Při interakci s terénem reprezentovaným pomocí trojúhelníkové sítě dochází k erozi nebo depozici. Erodovaný sediment je přenášen částicemi kapaliny. Při úpravě trojúhelníkové sítě může vzniknout nekonzistence v síti; řešení tohoto problému je v práci navrženo, implementace naráží na problémy kvůli numerickým nepřesnostem při výpočtech s čísly s plovoucí řádovou čárkou.
