The analysis of meteorological conditions causing drought in the Blšanka river basin

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce se zabývá hodnocením hydrologického sucha na řece Blšance a analýzou jeho vztahu k meteorologickým podmínkám v povodí. Hlavním cílem práce je identifikovat výskyt suchých období, zhodnotit jejich časový a sezónní průběh a posoudit závislost mezi průtokem a vybranými meteorologickými veličinami. Analýza vychází z dlouhodobých časových řad hydrologických a meteorologických dat za období 1968-2023. Hydrologické sucho bylo hodnoceno pomocí prahové metody s využitím charakteristického průtoku Q355, na jehož základě byly identifikovány suché dny a suchá období. Následně byla provedena analýza časových trendů, sezónního rozložení sucha a statistické vyhodnocení vztahů mezi průtokem a meteorologickými veličinami. Pro posouzení závislostí byl použit Spearmanův korelační koeficient. Bylo zjištěno, že hydrologické sucho vykazuje výrazný sezónní charakter, přičemž nejvyšší výskyt suchých období se soustřeďuje do letních měsíců a od roku 2018 se délka a počet suchých dnů prodlužuje. Výskyt sucha je ovlivněn kombinací meteorologických faktorů, zejména nedostatkem srážek, vyššími teplotami vzduchu a zvýšeným výparem. Všechny tyto meteorologické factory souvisí s častějšími anticyklonami nad střední Evropou. Výsledky práce přispívají k lepšímu pochopení hydrologického režimu řeky Blšance a mohou sloužit jako podklad pro další hodnocení dopadů sucha v daném povodí.

Abstract:

This bachelors thesis focuses on the evaluation of hydrological drought in the Blšanka River and the analysis of its relationship with meteorological conditions in the catchment area. The main objective of the thesis is to identify the occurrence of dry periods, assess their temporal and seasonal patterns, and evaluate the dependence between river discharge and selected meteorological variables. The analysis is based on long-term time series of hydrological and meteorological data for the period 1968-2023. Hydrological drought was assessed using the threshold method with the characteristic discharge Q355, on the basis of which dry days and dry periods were identified. Subsequently, an analysis of temporal trends, seasonal distribution of drought, and statistical evaluation of relationships between discharge and meteorological variables were carried out. Spearman's rank correlation coefficient was used to assess dependencies. It was found that hydrological drought exhibits a pronounced seasonal character, with the highest occurrence of dry periods concentrated in the summer months, and since 2018 the duration and number of dry days have been increasing. The occurrence of drought is influenced by a combination of meteorological factors, particularly a lack of precipitation, higher air temperatures, and increased evaporation. All these meteorological factors are related to more frequent anticyclonic conditions over Central Europe. The results of the thesis contribute to a better understanding of the hydrological regime of the Blšanka River and may serve as a basis for further assessment of drought impacts in the given catchment area.
