Nuclear waste disposal at the bottom of the sea as a subject of international law regulation

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se zaměřuje na formování režimu ukládání radioaktivního odpadu na mořské dno ve druhé polovině 20. století. Nabízí vhled do problematiky ochrany životního prostředí, ze které se působením analyzovaných vlivových faktorů vyprofiloval zájem o řešení otázek znečištění moří jaderným odpadem. Praktická část práce vyhodnocuje pozice klíčových hráčů a jejich partikulárních zájmů na poli mezinárodních vztahů a vývoj jejich rolí při sjednávání úmluv interakcí vymezujících rámec režimu oceánského dumpingu. Proces cesty ovlivněné celou řadou faktorů vedoucí od prvotních impulsů až po přelomové události formující sledovanou agendu následně rozpracovává do jednotlivých fází. V rámci kontextu environmentálního modelu režimu podle Orana Younga pak představuje základní determinanty dynamiky tohoto procesu.

Abstract:

The master thesis focuses on the formation of the regime towards the radioactive waste disposal on the seabed that took place in the second half of the 20th century. It offers an insight into the issues of environmental protection which lead to further discovery of analyzed influencing factors. This phenomenon itself gave rise to further enhanced development and interest in solving issues of marine pollution from nuclear waste. The practical part of the work evaluates the positions of key players and their particular interests in the field of international relations. It also demonstrated evolution of development of their roles in the negotiation of interaction agreements further defining the framework of the ocean dumping regime. The process of the path influenced by number of factors leading from the initial impulses to the turning points shaping the monitored agenda is then elaborated into individual phases. Within the context of the environmental model of the regime according to Oran Young presents the basic determinants of the dynamics of this process.
