Autonomy and Identity in Emerging Adulthood

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce zkoumá souvislost autonomie ve vztahu k rodičům s identitou a s pocitem dospělosti mladých lidí v období vynořující se dospělosti. Práce se zaměřuje na dva konstrukty související s emoční autonomií: separaci a detachment; zkoumá jejich souvislost s Berzonského styly identity a pocitem dospělosti. Výzkum byl realizován pomocí online dotazníku, jehož součástí byly Škály emoční autonomie (EAS), Inventář stylů identity (ISI-4) a otázka týkající se pocitu dospělosti. Výzkumu se zúčastnilo 259 respondentů ve věku 18 – 25 let. Bylo prokázáno, že vyšší míra separace souvisí s nižší mírou normativního stylu identity, souvislost s ostatními styly prokázána nebyla. Vyšší hodnota detachmentu souvisí s vyšší hodnotou difúzního stylu identity, souvislost s ostatními styly identity se neprokázala. Výzkum neprokázal, že by jedinci, kteří se cítí dospělí, vykazovali vyšší hodnoty separace či detachmentu ve vztahu k rodičům.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis focuses on relationship between autonomy from parents and identity, and between autonomy and attaining full adulthood during emerging adulthood. This thesis deals with two constructs related to emotional autonomy: separation and detachment; looking for their relationship with Berzonsky´s identity processing styles and sense of attaining adulthood. The research was made up using online questionnaire, its parts were Emotional Autonomy Scale (EAS), Identity Style Inventory (ISI-4) and question connected with reaching of full adulthood. 259 people took part in this research, age 18-25. It was proved that higher rate of separation is connected with lower rate of normative identity style, relationship with other styles was not proved. Higher rate of detachment is related to higher rate of diffuse identity style, relationship with other styles was not proved. The research did not prove that the people, who feel adult, have higher rate of separation or detachment in relationship with parents.
