Parenthood and Childhood in the Risk Society: The Discourse Analysis of the Magazine "Rodiče"

Abstract:

Tato práce se věnuje tématu rizikové společnosti v souvislosti s rodičovstvím a dětstvím. Jádrem celé práce je diskursivní analýza časopisu Rodiče. Časopis Rodiče je rodinným měsíčníkem, který se věnuje problematice výchovy dětí, zdraví a rodičovství obecně. Celá práce vychází z teoretických východisek, které jsou čerpány ponejvíce z díla U. Becka, konkrétně z konceptu rizikové společnosti. Pro analýzu časopisu byla zvolena metoda diskursivní analýzy, protože základní logikou tohoto postupu je komplexní hledání způsobu fungování jazyka v rámci sociálních procesů. Analýza se na stránkách časopisu zaměřovala na konstruování rodičovství a dětství v rámci dnešní rizikové společnosti, reprezentaci samotných rizik a odhalení mocenských aspektů zkoumaného diskursu. Dalším významným aspektem, na který se analýza zaměřovala je tematika zdraví. Diskurs zdraví je totiž možné chápat jako určitý moderní disciplinární režim moci. V rámci analýzy tak byl kladen důraz na problematiku uplatňování mocenských mechanismů diskursu zdraví vůči rodičům dětí. Výsledky, které analýza přinesla do značné míry korespondují s teoretickými východisky práce. V tomto časopise je svět skutečně chápán jako prostředí plné rizik, před kterými musí rodiče své nevinné a bezbranné děti ochránit. Je zde zdůrazňována role prevence a expertního vědění. Rozhodující místo mezi diskursy zahrnujícími problematiku rizik zaujímá diskurs zdraví.

Abstract:

The paper is dealing with problems of the risk society in context of parenthood and childhood. The main focus of this paper is the discourse analysis of the magazine “Rodiče” (Parenthood). “Rodiče” is a monthly family magazine dealing generally with problems of care, health and parenthood. Whole paper uses theoretical resources of U. Beck first, especially his conception of the risk society. The method of the analysis is the discourse analysis, because the basic idea of this method is a complex finding of the way a language works in a social process. The main objectives of the analysis were the structure of parenthood and childhood in the contemporary risk society, the representation of exact risks and discovering the power aspects of the discourse. Other important issues of the analysis is the theme of health. Discourse of the health can be understood like a certain modern discipline regime of the power. The analysis were focused on problems of exerting power mechanisms of the discourse of the health in cace of parents as well. The analysis brings results corresponding with theoretical resources to a great extent. In this magazine, there is a world as an environment full of risks. Parents are perceived as guardians of their innocent and vulnerable children. The role of prevention and expert knowledege is emphasized. The discourse of health plays a crucial role between other discourses involving problems of risk.
