Poetics and aestetics of literary kitsch seen in text of 21st century female writers

Abstract:

The diploma thesis deals with the characteristics of kitsch in art. The thesis focuses on literature in particular and strives to reveal main characteristics of kitsch in the works by contemporary Slovak female authors. The characteristics of women’s fiction of the past are presented and compared with present-day women’s novels. The works by Táňa Keleová-Vasilková and Renata Beňačková are studied in detail with regard to central themes of their novels, their characters and central conflicts. In addition, the category of time and space, text composition and the narrator’s position in relation to the story are taken into account. Moreover, visual elements of the book covers are not overlooked. The aim of the thesis is to find the characteristics of the literary kitsch in the works by the above-mentioned authors. My findings are presented in the final part of the thesis. Furthermore, the type of literary genre, to which works by these Slovak writers belong, is suggested.

Abstract:

V mojej diplomovej práci sa zaoberám charakteristikou gýča v umení so zameraním na literatúru a nájdenie jeho charakteristických prvkov na tvorbe súčasných slovenských ženských autoriek. Zaujímam sa aké typické znaky mali v minulosti romány označované ako červená knižnica a porovnávam ich so ženskými románmi súčasnej doby. Na textoch Táni Keleovej-Vasilkovej a Renaty Beňačkovej poukazujem na spracovanú tematiku, charakteristiku postáv, základný konflikt, kategóriu času a priestoru, kompozíciu textu, postavenie rozprávača a vizuálnu stránku knihy. V závere sa pokúšam na ich tvorbe nájsť charakteristické znaky literárneho gýča a zamýšľam sa do akej kategórie literatúry táto tvorba patrí.
