Temporary residency. Reflection of different forms of mobility and living environments in contemporary art

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se zaměřuje na zkoumání mobility, v jejímž důsledku dochází k dobrovolným či nuceným, přechodným či trvalým proměnám životních prostor. Úvodní část představuje obecné souvislosti, které vedou lidi k migraci, opuštění domovů, změně míst pobytu i neustálému cestování. Pohyb sem a tam se výrazně projevuje v pracovním i soukromém životě u stále většího počtu lidí, umělce nevyjímaje. Zvláštní kapitola je proto věnována formám podpory (stipendia, rezidenční pobyty) i jistým překážkám, které v současnosti doprovázejí mobilitu v umělecké oblasti. Jako zhodnocení možností, přínosů i vlastní tvůrčí strategie podmíněné pestrostí center působnosti je užito dotazníků položených řadě domácích i zahraničních umělců působících na naší výtvarné scéně. Odraz dlouhodobých pobytů v tvorbě autorů žijících daleko od svých původních domovů představuje další část práce. Na závěr je připojen výběr z realizovaných uměleckých projektů, které v posledních letech ve formě výstav přiblížily fenomém migrace a mobility v současném světě.

Abstract:

The theme of this thesis is cross-border mobility and home in contemporary art. It reflects aspects in the field of mobility and living in foreign countries as a result of residency programs as well as personal decisions about future life. The reasons can vary as is shown in the first part, which describes contemporary practices in migration and turism and defines new possibilities of mobility. Next chapter is devoted to the situation of Central Europe, particularly the Czech Republic, and is supported by a number of analyses focused on foreigners living here. The following part of the thesis presents the consequences on cross-border mobility and its role in everyday life. In connection with mobility and present possibilities of networking, residency programs, internship and scholarships the midle part displays the effect of mobility on forming talent. The impact of the different places of residency on contemporary artists is shown in the conducted survey. Mobility in contemporary arts is reflected through several topics such as immigration and integration, question of the national identity, life in exile and in conflict with other cultures. Finally, the topic of cross-border mobility and migration is presented and reflected by several art projects and exhibitions, which were specialized on the identification of the relationship between people and their home environment.
