A comparative study of melody in English language with melody in Spanish language

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce se zabývá porovnáním zpěvnosti a melodičnosti jazyka anglického se zpěvností a melodičností jazyka španělského. Obecné informace se soustředí na zpěvnost a melodičnost nejprve z hlediska hudebního. Posléze jsou tyto pojmy analyzovány po stránce fonetické, tzn. funkce vokálu jakožto nositele tónu a s tím související tvoření slabik, dále pak přízvuk slovní i větný a jeho vliv na rytmus řeči. Práce se zaměřuje na rozdíly těchto aspektů mezi výše zmíněnými jazyky. Jejich vliv je následně znázorněn a porovnán na čtyřech vybraných písních, které existují jak v anglické, tak ve španělské verzi. Nejdříve jsou porovnávány texty a melodická linka obou verzí jednotlivých písní, v závěru práce jsou pak vyhodnoceny celkové výsledky analýzy všech písní.

Abstract:

The thesis is a comparative study of melody in English language with melody in Spanish language. General information focuses on the melody firstly from the musical point of view. Then it is analysed phonetically, i.e. the function of a vowel as a tone bearer and its connection to the creation of the syllable types, then the rythm which is based on the word and sentence stress. The thesis focuses on different features of these terms between English an Spanish by comparing them on four songs that have both the English and Spanish version. Firstly, the versions of each song are analysed separately, then all the results are evaluated at the end of the study.
