Study of cathodoluminescence decay of fast scintillators using time-correlated single photon counting method

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce se jednak zabývá zprovozněním metody časově korelovaného čítání jednotlivých fotonů (TCSPC) a jejím integrováním do katodoluminiscenční aparatury na ÚPT AV ČR a také jejím využitím ke studiu vlastností scintilátorů. Metoda byla nejprve kvůli výskytu problémů s parazitními signály laděna pomocí testovacího vzorku, a to s pomocí pulzní laserové diody. Další část práce je věnována teplotní závislosti katodoluminiscenčního spektra a doznívání katodoluminiscence scintilátoru YAP:Ce. Metodou TCSPC byly získány doby doznívání katodoluminiscence scintilátorů YAG:Ce, YAP:Ce a YSO:Ce. Ze všech výsledků měření byl mj. v materiálech odhadnut počet druhů katodoluminiscenčních center. Hlavním cílem práce bylo srovnání metody TCSPC s dosud používanou analogovou metodou. Bylo dosaženo závěru, že i když je tato metoda považována za lepší, měření metodou TCSPC s využitím detekční karty PicoQuant TimeHarp 200 nedosahuje kvalitnějších výsledků než výsledků analogovou metodou ani pro záznam velmi slabého světelného záření.

Abstract:

In this thesis it is dealt partly with getting the Time-Correlated Single Photon Counting technique (TCSPC) going and taking her in the cathodoluminescence apparatus on the ISI ASCR, partly with her application to study some attributes of scintillators. Firstly, the method was debugged with an assistance of pulse laser diode because of occurrence of some problems with parasitic signals. Another part of this thesis is engaged in temperature-resolved cathodoluminescence spectrum of the scintillator YAP:Ce. Cathodoluminescence decay times of scintillators YAG:Ce, YAP:Ce and YSO:Ce were obtained by using the TCSPC technique. As a result of those two measurements, a number of types of cathodoluminescence centers were identified. The main goal of this thesis was a comparison of the TCSPC technique with a till now used analogue technique. It was come to the conclusion that although this technique is considered to be better one, superior results couldn’t be reached with the use of the TCSPC technique using a PicoQuant TimeHarp 200 card than with the use of the analogue technique even for a recording of a very low light radiation.
