Demographic dividend and socio-economic development on the example of selected Latin American countries

Abstract:

Tato práce se zabývá představením konceptu demografické dividendy. Jejím cílem je popsat, jakým způsobem se mohou změny ve věkové struktuře obyvatelstva podílet na nastartování hospodářského růstu země. Součástí práce je představení konkrétních ukazatelů, pomocí kterých lze měřit úspěšnost využití demografické dividendy. V úvodu analytické části práce jsou představeny vybrané státy světa, kterým se populačních změn podařilo v minulosti plně využít. Na tuto část navazuje analýza dvou vybraných států regionu Latinské Ameriky, Chile a Mexika, z hlediska úspěšnosti využití demografické dividendy. K měření úspěšnosti demografické dividendy ve zvolených zemích jsou využity konkrétní sociální, ekonomické a politické ukazatele.

Abstract:

This paper introduces the concept of demographic dividend. Its aim is to describe how changes in the age structure of the population can contribute to initiate a country's economic growth. The paper presents specific indicators that can be used to measure the success of the demographic dividend. The analytical part of the thesis is introduced by an example of selected countries that have managed to take full advantage of population changes in the past. This section is followed by an analysis of two selected Latin American countries, Chile and Mexico, in terms of the success of the demographic dividend. Specific social, economic and political indicators are used to measure the success of the demographic dividend in these countries.
