Fraud and Audit

Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce v první části pojednává o historickém vývoji odvětví auditu a o auditu jako celku. Rozděluje jej na audit interní a externí a popisuje jednotlivé jeho funkce. Velký důraz je kladen na forenzní audit, od kterého se odvíjí druhá část práce. Společně s popisem auditorské profese je v práci důkladně popsána i odpovědnost auditora a riziko plynoucí z vykonávání auditorské profese. Práce dále navazuje na etiku a její funkce obzvláště ve vztahu k auditu, proto je v práci popsán i Etický kodex komory auditorů České republiky. Součástí první části práce je charakteristika podvodných jednání, jejich rozdělení, způsoby odhalování těchto podvodných jednání, četnost páchání podvodných činů, popis typického pachatele a také ztráty plynoucí ze spáchání podvodného činu. Praktická část se zaobírá podvodným jed-náním v energetické firmě Enron a s tímto činem spojenou firmou Arthur Andersen. Popisuje průběh podvodného jednání a na konci práce jsou zmíněny i rozsudky nad pachateli trestných činů.

Abstract:

The first part of the thesis describes audit and its historical development. Audit is divided into two parts: internal and external audit and there are described their functions. Very important part is related to the forensic audit, which determines the second part of the thesis. Moreover the thesis is describing the auditor's responsibility and risks arising from the performance of the audit profession. The thesis also talks about the topic of ethics and its functions particular-ly in relation to the audit, therefore, is described the Code of Ethics of the Chamber of Audi-tors of the Czech Republic. The first part continues with the topic of fraud, description of its types, methods of detection fraudulent activities, frequency of committing fraudulent acts, a description of a typical offender and losses arising from committing act of fraud. The practical part talks about fraud in the energy company Enron and its auditor Arthur Andersen. In this part is described the process of investigating the fraud and there is also mentioned sentencing the offenders.
