Factors affecting the level of physical activity of people with hearing impairment

Abstract:

Diplomová práce analyzuje faktory ovlivňující úroveň pohybové aktivity sluchově postižených dospělých a starších dospělých. Cílem práce je zhodnotit vztah sluchově postižených k pohybové aktivitě, identifikovat bariéry integrace pohybové aktivity do jejich každodenního života a navrhnout možnosti zapojení těchto jedinců do pohybových aktivit. Pro vhodnou intepretaci výsledků definuje první část práce teoretické rozhraní tématu sluchového postižení a pohybové aktivity, zahrnující legislativní podporu a problematiku inkluze a integrace sluchově postižních do intaktní společnosti. Výzkumná část byla realizována pomocí tematické analýzy polostrukturovaných rozhovorů za pomoci sociálně-ekologického modelu a modelu COM-B. Polostrukturované rozhovory byly realizovány ve Spolku neslyšících Břeclav, z.s. Výzkumu se zúčastnilo 8 sluchově postižených osob ve věku od 52 do 76 let. Výsledky poukazují na jejich kladný vztah k pohybové aktivitě. Účast na pohybové aktivitě je limitována především komunikačními bariérami sluchově postižených osob ve společnosti. Problém s dorozumíváním limituje volbu aktivit, především na ty, které jsou realizovány v komunitě neslyšících. Volbu aktivit, mimo komunikace a socializace v komunitě neslyšících, ovlivňuje také věk a zdravotní stav jedinců. Jako možnosti zpřístupnění pohybové aktivit se jeví edukace intaktní společnosti, rozšíření nabídky aktivit úměrné věku a schopnostem sluchově postižených jedinců a vhodná motivace ze strany rodiny, přátel a neslyšící komunity. Konkrétní strategie jsou formulovány v závěrečné části práce.

Abstract:

This master's thesis examines factors influencing the level of physical activity among adults and older adults with hearing impairments. The primary objective is to assess the relationship between individuals with hearing impairments and physical activity, identify barriers to integrating physical activity into their daily lives, and propose potential avenues for involvement of these individuals in physical activities. For a comprehensive interpretation of results, the initial section of the thesis establishes a theoretical framework encompassing the theme of hearing impairment and physical activity. This framework includes legislative support and the challenges of inclusion and integration of individuals with hearing impairments into mainstream society. The research component employs thematic analysis of semi-structured interviews utilizing the social-ecological model and the COM-B model. Semi-structured interviews were conducted within the Spolek neslyšících Břeclav, z.s. involving 8 hearing-impaired participants aged between 52 and 76 years. Results indicate a positive correlation between individuals with hearing impairments and engagement in physical activities. Participation is predominantly hindered by communication barriers within society, influencing the choice of activities, particularly those conducted within the Deaf community. Factors such as age and health conditions further influence activity selection. Strategies for enhancing access to physical activities for individuals with hearing impairments include educating the broader society, expanding activity offerings tailored to the age and abilities of those with hearing impairments, and fostering suitable motivation from family, friends, and the Deaf community. Concrete strategies are formulated in the concluding section of the thesis.
