The filter bubbles problem on the Tik Tok social network

Abstract:

Sociální média již dávno začala nahrazovat noviny, televizní zpravodajské kanály a nakonec i osobní setkání mnoha lidí. Právě oni se stali nesmírně důležitou součástí každodenního života současné generace. Bohužel jen málo uživatelů se domnívá, že sociální sítě s nimi také interagují a vytvářejí personalizovaný feed na základě jejich zálib a světonázoru, který pak může ukazovat svět velmi jednostranně. Právě tak vzniká nebezpečí pádu do takzvaných "filtračních bublin", které poprvé popsal Eli Pariser v roce 2011. Tato bakalářská práce se věnuje podrobné analýze fungování mladé, ale rychle získávající popularitu sociální sítě Tik Tok, jejímu vlivu na uživatele a významnému přínosu k vytváření a šíření filtračních bublin. Hlavním cílem je prozkoumat vztah mezi vlivem sociální sítě Tik Tok na uživatele a změnou jejich pohledu na svět a životních postojů. Teoretická část práce obsahuje popis existujících doporučovacích algoritmů, význam pojmu "filtrační bublina" a jeho nebezpečí pro uživatele, a podrobný popis sociální sítě Tik Tok, její historie, vlastností a vlivu na vznik filtračních bublin. Praktická část spočívá v analýze dotazníku se 160 respondenty. Ze získaných údajů byly zjištěny a okomentovány některé zajímavé souvislosti a výsledky studie byly shrnuty v závěru práce.

Abstract:

Social media has long since begun to replace newspapers, TV news channels and eventually face-to-face meetings for many people. They have become an extremely important part of the everyday life of the current generation. Unfortunately, few users consider that social networks also interact with them and create a personalised feed based on their interests and worldview, which can then show the world in a very one-sided way. This is how the danger of falling into the so-called "filter bubbles" which was first described in 2011 by Eli Pariser comes into play. This bachelor thesis is devoted to a detailed analysis of the functioning of the young but rapidly gaining popularity social network Tik Tok, its impact on users and its significant contribution to the creation and spread of filter bubbles. The main objective is to investigate the relationship between the influence of the Tik Tok social network on users and the change in their worldview and life attitudes. The theoretical part of the thesis includes a description of existing recommendation algorithms, the meaning of the term "filter bubble", its danger for users, and a detailed description of the Tik Tok social network, its history, properties, and influence on the formation of filter bubbles. The practical part consists in the analysis of a questionnaire with 160 respondents. From the data obtained, some interesting correlations were identified and commented on, and the results of the study were summarized in the conclusion of the work.
