The Tendencies in the Development of the Austrian Drama after the year 2000

Abstract:

Předkládaná disertační práce má být příspěvkem k diskuzi o současné dramatice a možnostech jejího zkoumání. V centru pozornosti zde stojí dramatika rakouská, reprezentovaná čtyřmi stěžejními jmény nové generace rakouských autorů píšících pro divadlo – Händl Klaus, Kathrin Röggla, Ewald Palmetshofer a Gerhild Steinbuch. Stěžejní tezí pro následnou analýzu jednotlivých děl těchto autorů byla otázka, do jaké míry navazuje tato nová generace rakouských autorů na dlouholetou tradici kritiky jazyka a společnosti, stejně jako na dekonstruktivní přístupy k dramatickému textu v dílech autorů předchozí generace (Thomas Bernhard, Elfriede Jelinek, Peter Handke, Werner Schwab, Marlene Streeruwitz). Druhou dílčí oblastí mého zájmu o současnou dramatiku tak tvoří část teoretická. Její pojmenování, Transformace dramatu v divadelní text, symbolicky odráží proces proměny tradičního chápání dramatu v divadelní text současnosti, který je obohacený o nové významové vlastnosti dramatické formy.

Abstract:

This dissertation is a contribution to the discussion about the contemporary drama and the possibility for its re-examination. The centre of attention is the Austrian drama, represented by four crucial names of the new generation of Austrian authors writing for the theatre -Händl Klaus, Kathrin Röggla, Ewald Palmetshofer and Gerhild Steinbuch. The main thesis for the following analysis of individual works of these authors was the question as to what extend the new generation of Austrian authors follows the long-standing tradition of criticism of the language and the society as well as the deconstructive attitudes towards the dramatic texts in the works of the authors of the previous generation (Thomas Bernhard, Elfriede Jelinek, Peter Handke, Werner Schwab, Marlene Streeruitz).Another area of my interest in the contemporary drama in presented in the theoretical chapter. Its name, The Transformation of the Drama into the Theatrical Text, symbolizes the traditional understanding of the drama in the theatrical text of today which is enriched with the new qualities of the dramatic form.
