Positives and Negatives of the Central Bank Independence

Abstract:

Cílem této diplomové práce je analýza a posouzení výhod a nevýhod nezávislosti centrální banky. Současně je práce zaměřena na definování samotné nezávislosti centrální banky. V úvodu práce je stručně popsána historie centrálního bankovnictví jak ve světě, tak u nás a následně je popsáno hlavní poslání centrální banky. Další část práce definuje jednotlivé typy nezávislosti, dále definuje odpovědnost, kredibilitu a transparentnost centrální banky a vysvětluje vztahy, které jsou mezi nezávislostí centrální banky a makroekonomickými veličinami. Diplomová práce se také zabývá tím, jak se navzájem ovlivňují jednotlivé pojmy nezávislost a odpovědnost a jakým způsobem mají vztah ke kredibilitě a transparentnosti. Následná část práce definuje jednotlivé klady a zápory nezávislosti centrální banky. Závěrečná část práce uvádí některé výhody a rizika vyplývající z nezávislého postavení centrální banky.

Abstract:

The aim of this thesis is to analyze and to assess the advantages and disadvantages of the independence of a central bank. The thesis also aims to define the actual independence of the central bank. Firstly, it describes briefly the history of central banking in the world as well as in our country and therafter it explains the main mission of the bank. Then, the thesis defines individual types of the central bank’s independence, its responsibility, credibility and tranparency. It explains the relationship between the independence of a central bank and macroeconomic quantity. It also examines how the concept of independence and responsibility influence each other and what relationships they have with the credibility and transparency of the bank. Next, the thesis defines the individual strengths and weaknesses of the independence of the central bank. Finally, the thesis sets out some of the advantages and risks arising from the indenpendent position of the central bank.
