The Rotunda of St. Margaret of Antioch in Šivetice

Abstract:

The thesis focuses on the Rotunda of St. Margaret of Antioch, a unique late Romanesque medieval monument located in the southeastern Slovak village Šivetice. The subject of the thesis is not only the building itself, but also its impressive decoration, especially the surviving unique architecture form, and its creation in the concept of the period. This rotunda is viewed from several perspectives. The work tries to map the object from the perspective of researchers, and also describe this monument in the current state of preservation. In accordance with the parts of this thesis, a hypothetical reconstruction of the original appearance, from the exterior and interior, is made. However, the parts dealing with the founder, and with him associated reasons of creation, function, appearance of the architecture and the choice of dedication of the studied rotunda, are particularly crucial. In the attempt to understand the function of the sacral building in practice, significant attention is also paid to the position of the patron in the form of liturgy performance, in the point of view of architecture and the element of acoustics.

Abstract:

Táto bakalárska práca sa sústreďuje na rotundu svätej Margity Antiochijskej, výnimočný neskororománsky monument ležiaci v juhovýchodnej slovenskej obci Šivetice. Predmetom práce je nielen stavba samotná, ale aj jej pôsobivé dekorácie, ojedinelá architektonická podoba a vznik v kontexte dobových súvislostí. Na rotundu sa pozerá z rôznych perspektív. Práca sa snaží stavbu zmapovať z pohľadov bádateľov a rovnako aj popísať jej architektúru a umeleckú výzdobu v súčasnom stave zachovania. V súlade s týmito časťami je následne prevedená hypotetická rekonštrukcia pôvodnej podoby z exteriéru a z interiéru. Kľúčové sú avšak hlavné časti pracujúce s jej datáciou, identifikáciou objednávateľa, a s ním spojené dôvody. vzniku, funkcie, vzhľadu architektúry a výberu zasvätenia študovanej rotundy. V snahe pochopiť fungovanie sakrálnej stavby v praxi je pozornosť venovaná aj postaveniu patróna v podobe výkonu liturgií z hľadiska architektúry a elementu akustiky.
