Prediction models of winning football games

Abstract:

Tato práce se zabývá predikcí výsledků fotbalových zápasů v 5 vybraných evropských soutěžích. Predikce vychází z modelu postaveného na Poissonově rozložení, díky kterému jsou vypočítány pravděpodobnosti výsledků. V první části je představen sázkařský trh a přístupy autorů zabývajících se stejnou nebo podobnou problematikou, následně je vybrán koncept modelu, který je poté aplikován na vybrané soutěže. V další části jsou zhodnoceny výsledky, definovány nedostatky a přijata opatření pro vylepšení predikční výkonnosti modelu.

Abstract:

This thesis deals with the prediction of the results of football matches in 5 selected European competitions. The prediction is based on a Poisson-distribution model that evaluates the probabilities of the results. The first part introduces the betting market and approaches of authors dealing with the same or similar issues, followed by the selection of the concept of the model, which is then applied to selected competitions. In the next part the results are evaluated, deficiencies are defined and measures are taken to improve the model's predictive performance.
