Regional inequalities in the Visegrad Group

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se zabývá analýzou regionálních rozdílů v regionech států Visegrádské čtyřky na úrovni NUTS 2 regionů. Práce z teoretického hlediska vymezuje problematiku regionálního rozvoje a měření regionálních disparit. V práci je představena Visegradská čtyřka a její stručný vývoj. Je provedena analýza, pro kterou jsou vybrány dva ukazatele, a to HDP a disponibilní důchod domácností. Pro porovnání vývoje vybraných ukazatelů je zvoleno období dlouhé 14 let, které zahrnuje 2 programovací období (2007-2013 a 2014-2020). Pro analýzu vývoje disparit byly použity metody beta a sigma konvergence. Z analýzy vyplývá, že na úrovni celé Visegrádské skupiny regiony konvergují, tento závěr však neplatí na úrovni jednotlivých zemí. Bylo zjištěno, že pokud do analýzy nebudou zahrnuty regiony hlavních měst, tak je intenzita regionální konvergence vyšší, a také že je závěr o regionální konvergenci častější v případě ukazatele HDP a méně v případě ukazatele disponibilního důchodu domácností.

Abstract:

The diploma thesis deals with the analysis of regional differences in the regions of the Visegrad Four countries at the level of NUTS 2 regions. From a theoretical point of view, the work defines the issue of regional development and the measurement of regional disparities. The work presents the Visegrad Four and its brief development. An analysis is carried out for which two indicators are selected, namely GDP and household disposable income. To compare the development of selected indicators, a period of 14 years is chosen, which includes 2 programming periods (2007-2013 and 2014-2020). Beta and sigma convergence methods were used to analyze the development of disparities. The whole analysis shows that at the level of the Visegrad group of regions they are converging, but this conclusion does not apply at the level of individual countries. It was found that if capital city regions are not included in the analysis, the intensity of regional convergence is higher, and also that the conclusion about regional convergence is more frequent in the case of the GDP indicator and less so in the case of the household disposable income indicator.
