Joseph Clemens von Kaunitz, an Imperial Envoy to Stockholm, and his Swedish and Danish Journey in the summer of 1776

Abstract:

Předkládaná bakalářská práce pojednává o cestě císařského vyslance Josefa Klementa z Kounic, který byl vyslán zastupovat své suverény do Švédského království a strávil zde dva roky mezi lety 1775 až 1777. V průběhu této mise absolvoval poznávací cestu po jižním Švédsku, která je nosným tématem dané práce. Kounicova mise je zasazena do kontextu švédských dějin v 18. století a nechybí ani diplomatický kontext, který je demonstrován především na historii rodu Kouniců a habsbursko-švédských diplomatických vztazích v raném novověku. V závěru je absolvovaná cesta po historických provinciích Švédska komparována s dalšími cestopisy pojednávajícími o stejné oblasti.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis deals with a journey of the imperial envoy Joseph Clemens von Kaunitz who was sent to the kingdom of Sweden and he spent two years between 1775 and 1777 there. During this mission he made a tour around the south of Sweden, which is the main topic of this work. Whithin the thesis, Kaunitz's mission is presented in the context of Swe-dish history of the 18th century. In addition there is also a diplomatic context, which is demon-strated primarily through the history of Kaunitz family and Habsburg-Swedish diplomatic relations in Early Modern Times. In the end, the journey around the historic provinces of Sweden is compared with other travel books dealing with the same region.
