Verbo-nominal Constructions and Semantic Weak Verbs in German and Czech (on the Basis of Translation of International Treaties)

Abstract:

The diploma thesis deals with verbo-nominal constructions in German and Czech, specifically with semantically weak verbs, looked up in German-Czech international treaties freely available on the internet. In the theoretical part there are discussed semantically weak verbs on the basis of studying relevant German grammar books. Furthermore, it is searched for work to this topic from the perspective of Czech linguistics or stylistics. The following chapter deals with technical language which is focused on the legal language and the language of treaties. The practical part is divided into two analyses. The first one investigates the frequency of semantically weak verbs in international treaties as the translation of each phrase is thoroughly commented; possibly other translation options are suggested. The second analysis examines repeated phrases, semantically weak verbs or nominal parts of these constructions. As a consequence, only the phrases with higher frequency are looked up as it is easier to compare their translations. Based on the analyses there are compiled glossaries which represent used translations, frequency of phrases as well as other possible periphrases. In conclusion, there are all the data composed into graphs which show the exact percentage figures about the way how the phrases were translated.

Abstract:

Práce se zabývá verbonominálními vazbami v němčině i v češtině, konkrétně vazbami s funkčními slovesy, které jsou vyhledávány v německo-českých smlouvách dostupných volně na internetu. V teoretické části je pojednáno o vazbách s funkčními slovesy na základě prostudování příslušných německých gramatik. Dále jsou hledána díla k této tématice z pohledu české jazykovědy či stylistiky. Následuje kapitola o odborném jazyce, která se dále zaměřuje na jazyk právní a jazyk smluv. Praktická část je rozdělena na dvě analýzy. První z nich zkoumá četnost funkčních vazeb ve smlouvách, kdy je překlad vazby vždy důkladně okomentován, příp. jsou navrženy i další možnosti překladu. Druhá analýza se zaměřuje na opakující se vazby, funkční slovesa či nominální části daných konstrukcí. Jsou tedy vyhledávány pouze vazby, u kterých byla zjištěna vyšší četnost, a tedy lze lépe porovnat i jejich překlady. Na základě analýz jsou zpracovány glosáře, které zobrazují použité překlady, četnost vazeb i další možné opisy vazeb. Závěrem jsou data zpracována do grafů, které ukazují přesné procentuální údaje o tom, jakým způsobem byly vazby překládány.
