View into the History of Thinking Machines - Early Modern Period

Abstract:

Název bakalářské práce je ,,Pohled do historie myslících strojů (raný novověk)." Ve své práci jsem se rozhodla zaměřit na myslící stroje a jejich historii ze tří různých pohledů. Práce má čtyři kapitoly. První kapitola je pojata jako stručné uvedení do tématu myslících strojů a umělé inteligence. Druhá kapitola mapuje vývoj mechanických strojů. Prvními automatickými stroji byly hračky a různé hrací skříňky, které sloužily k pobavení společnosti. Z nich se postupem času vyvinuly mechanické kalkulátory a počítací stroje, které fungovaly na podobném principu. Jsou zde mimo jiné zmíněny Blaise Pascal, G. W. Leibniz a Alan Turing. V další části se práce zaměřuje na dva významné novověké myslitele, Reného Descarta a Juliena Offraye de la Mettrie. Tito filozofové se zabývali tématem ,,člověk a stroj," kdy člověka přirovnávali ke stroji. Poslední kapitola se zaobírá myslícími stroji, které byly vyrobeny pomocí magie. Jednalo se o homunkuly a golemy. Kapitola popisuje jejich vytvoření i fungování. Připojena je také legenda o pražském golemovi, kterého stvořil rabín Löw.

Abstract:

The title of my bachelor thesis is ,, View into the History of Thinking Machines - Early Modern Period." In my work I decided to analyze thinking machines and their history from three different perspectives. The thesis consists of four chapters. The first chapter is conceived as a brief introduction to the topic of thinking machines and artificial intelligence. The second chapter maps the development of mechanical machines. The first automatic machines were toys and play boxes. They served to entertain the company. In the corse of time mechanical calculators and calculating machines developed on a similar principle. In the third part, the thesis focuses on two important early modern philosophers René Descartes and Julian Offray de la Mettrie. They dealt with the theme of "Man and Machine" and compared the man to the machine. The last chapter deals with thinking machines that were made using magic. These were homunks and golems. The chapter describes their creation and functioning. The legend about the Prague Golem, produced by rabbi Löw, is also attached.
