Security Cooperation of the Visegrad Group Countries

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se zabývá Visegrádskou skupinou, kterou zkoumá z pohledu teorie regionálních bezpečnostních subkomplexů Barryho Buzana a jeho spoluautorů. Klade si za cíl určit, zda se v případě Visegrádské čtyřky jedná o regionální bezpečnostní subkomplex či nikoli a zda právě to je důvodem k společným aktivitám zemí Visegrádu na poli zahraniční a bezpečnostní politiky, které lze pozorovat především v posledních letech. V práci jsou nejprve vymezeny hlavní znaky, které musí skupina států splňovat, aby mohla být označena za subkomplex, následně jsou pak tyto znaky zkoumány z pohledu Visegrádské skupiny. Je tak provedena důkladná analýza hranic regionu, jeho polarity, sociální struktury a hrozeb, které na něj v současnosti nejvíce působí. Na základě této analýzy je provedena generalizace a vypracována závěrečná zpráva o daných zjištěních a jejich dopadech na bezpečnostní spolupráci zemí Visegrádské skupiny.

Abstract:

The thesis deals with the Visegrad Group, that is examined from the perspective of the regional security subcomplexes theory of Barry Buzan and his co-authors. It aims to determine whether the Visegrad Four is a regional security sub-complex and whether this is the reason for the common activities of the Visegrad countries in foreign and security policy, that can be observed mainly in recent years. In the thesis, the main features that a group of states should meet in order to be classified as a sub-complex are firstly identified, and subsequently these features are examined from the point of view of the Visegrad group. A thorough analysis of the borders, polarity, social structure and threats of this region is carried out. Based on this analysis, a final report on the findings and their impact on the security cooperation of the Visegrad Group countries is drawn up.
