Evaluation of the company's performance on the basis of financial statements

Abstract:

This thesis presents a comprehensive evaluation of Comcast Corporation's financial performance through detailed analysis of its financial statements from 2018 to 2022. Using horizontal and vertical analysis, financial ratio assessment, and the Altman Z-Score model, the study explores the company's liquidity, profitability, solvency, and overall financial health within the dynamic telecommunications and media industry. Key findings reveal that while Comcast experienced consistent growth in total assets driven by strategic investments and infrastructure expansion, the company also faced increasing financial pressure due to rising liabilities and declining liquidity. Profitability improved at the operational level, reflected in higher gross and EBIT margins, but net margins deteriorated significantly in 2022 due to elevated costs and tax burdens. Ratio analysis highlighted decreasing liquidity and stable yet high leverage, raising concerns about the company's capacity to sustain growth under mounting financial strain. The Altman Z-Score consistently remained below the safety threshold, signaling financial vulnerability despite strong market positioning. The thesis concludes that Comcast's financial strategies, while enabling growth, require recalibration to enhance liquidity, reduce debt dependence, and secure long-term financial stability.
