Abstract:

The aim of my thesis is to characterize the nature and importance of the banking system in the national economy. The analysis consists in using the basic functions of the different stages of the banking system, which are indispensable to the smooth and efficient functioning of market economy. The thesis is divided into four parts. The first chapter focuses on the characteristics of the banking system as a whole and defines concepts necessary to clarify this issue. The second chapter describes the first stage of the banking system - the central bank and its important role in the monetary authority of the country. The third chapter focuses on the second level of the banking system - the commercial banks and clarifies the importance of these institutions through their basic functions they perform in a market economy of the country. The fourth part of the thesis analyzes the position of the banking system in the economic crisis conditions, which steps it contributed to the formation of the global economic crisis and what measures were taken by the central banks to resolve the situation in the U.S. and the eurozone.

Abstract:

Cieľom mojej diplomovej práce je charakterizovať podstatu a význam bankového systému v národnom hospodárstve. Analýza spočíva vo využití základných funkcií jednotlivých stupňov bankového systému, ktoré sú pre plynulé a efektívne fungovanie trhovej ekonomiky neopomenuteľné. Práca je rozdelená do štyroch častí. Prvá kapitola je zameraná na charakteristiku bankového systému ako celku a zadefinovanie pojmov nutných pre objasnenie danej problematiky. Druhá kapitola opisuje prvý stupeň bankového systému – centrálnu banku a jej významné postavenie v úlohe menovej autority krajiny. Tretia kapitola sa zameriava na druhý stupeň bankového systému – komerčné banky a objasňuje význam týchto inštitúcií prostredníctvom ich základných funkcií, ktoré plnia v trhovej ekonomike krajiny. Štvrtá časť práce analyzuje postavenie bankového systému v podmienkach ekonomickej krízy, akými krokmi prispel ku vzniku globálnej hospodárskej krízy a aké opatrenia podnikli centrálne banky pri riešení vzniknutej situácie v USA a v rámci eurozóny.
