The Role of the Adverbs Always, Often, Rarely and Never in FSP

Anotace:

Hlavným cieľom práce je analyzovať adverbiá always, often, rarely a never z pohľadu FSP, čiže aktuálneho členenia vetného, a z hľadiska ich pozície vo vete. Práca skúma vzorku viet z Britského národného korpusu za účelom zistiť dynamické sémantické funkcie a funkcie FSP, ktoré sa u daných adverbií vyskytujú. Pozornosť je venovaná výskytu adverbií v tématickej, tranzitnej a rématickej časti distribučného pola. Práca sa zaoberá tým, ako často sa dané adverbiá v korpuse nachádzajú, a rozoberá faktory, ktoré určujú funkciu adverbií vo vete.

Abstract:

The main objective of the bachelor’s diploma thesis is to analyze the adverbs always, often, rarely and never from the point of view of the theory of Functional Sentence Perspective and the sentence position. The thesis investigates the dynamic semantic functions and the FSP functions of the given adverbs in the sample of sentences selected from the British National Corpus. The thesis concentrates on the frequency of the adverbs in the thematic, transitional and rhematic sphere of the distributional field. The frequencies of the adverbs in the corpus are examined. The factors determining the function of the given adverbs in a sentence are discussed.
