Forest vegetation of the southern part of the Podkomorské lesy Nature Park

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis deals with the vegetation diversity of the southern part of Podkomorské lesy Nature Park, area belonging to the western region of Brno. The data were collected by recording 30 phytosociological relevés during vegetation season in the year 2021. During the field research, soil samples were collected in order to measure soil pH and the vertical photographs of tree canopy were taken to detect the light availability in the forest interior. The phytosociological relevés were digitized in the Turboveg database programme and then analyzed in the Juice programme. For classification of the relevés with similar ecology and species composition several algorithms were tested. Flexible Beta agglomerative cluster analysis appeared to be the most convenient method. Applying this method, five clusters were distinguished, informally named species-rich oak-hornbeam forests, alluvial alder forests, slope forests, acidophilic and thermophilic oak forests and mesotrophic beech forests. The species variability along the environmental gradients was visualized by the ordination diagrams of the detrended correspondence analysis. Environmental variables – Soil pH, Topographic Wetness Index, Canopy Openness, Solar Radiation and the Altitude – relate to main gradients in species' composition and apparently influence local vegetation structure. The mutual relation between the numerical variables in the dataset was calculated by the correlation analysis. The individual phytosociological relevés were also classified by the Expert System for Czech vegetation with the result of 13 relevés classified into the vegetation associations according to the formal definitions. The diversity of vegetation in the examined area was finally contrasted with the surrounding areas where similar results were obtained. The compared areas show, probably thanks to their geological and geomorphological conditions, rather high degree of similarity in classified vegetation types, their spatial structure and also species diversity.

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce se zabývá diverzitou vegetace jižní části Podkomorských lesů, území přiléhajícího k západnímu okraji Brna. Data byla získána formou zápisu 30 fytocenologických snímků ve vegetační sezoně roku 2021. Během terénního průzkumu byly odebrány půdní vzorky pro změření pH, dále byly vytvořeny vertikální fotografie stromového patra pro určení dostupnosti světla. Digitalizace fytocenologických snímků byla provedena pomocí databázového programu Turboveg, následné analýzy proběhly v programu Juice. Pro klasifikaci snímků s podobnou ekologií i druhovým složením bylo vyzkoušených vícero algoritmů. Výstupem je klasifikace založená na aglomerativní shlukové analýze Flexible Beta, která se ukázala jako nejvhodnější metoda. Rozlišila celkem pět klastrů snímků, neformálně pojmenovaných jako květnaté dubohabřiny, potoční olšiny, svahové lesy, acidofilní a teplomilné doubravy a mezotrofní bučiny. Druhovou proměnlivost napříč gradienty prostředí vizualizují ordinační diagramy detrendované korespondenční analýzy. Environmentální proměnné – pH půdy, topografický index vlhkosti, otevřenost korunového zápoje, solární radiace a nadmořská výška – jsou korelované s hlavními gradienty v druhovém složení a zřejmě se významně podílejí na strukturování zdejší vegetace. Vzájemný vztah mezi numerickými proměnnými v datovém souboru byl zjištěn korelační analýzou. Jednotlivé fytocenologické snímky byly také klasifikovány expertním systémem a pomocí formálních definic se podařilo do asociací zařadit celkem 13 snímků. Rozmanitost vegetace ve studovaném území byla na závěr srovnána s okolními oblastmi, odkud jsou dostupné výsledky podobně zaměřených studií. Srovnávané území vykazují, i vlivem podobného geologického podkladu a členitosti reliéfu, poměrně velkou míru podobnosti co se týče zastoupení vegetačních typů, struktury jejich vegetačních pater a také druhového složení.
