The purpose of this thesis is to draw on the concept of eleven distinct nations recognized within the United States, analyze the two of them dating back to the 17th-century colonial America – Yankeedom and Tidewater, and examine how the nationality of Nathaniel Hawthorne and Edgar Allan Poe, writers belonging, respectively, to these particular nations, is manifested in their work.
