Abstract:

O otázce optimální vlastnické struktury diskutovali v posledních několika desetiletích akademici na celém světě. Dosud však nebyly dosaženy žádné obecně platné výsledky v otázce vlivu vlastnické struktury na výkonnost firmy. Cílem této práce bylo zjistit vliv vlastnické struktury na výkonnost komerčních bank v České republice. Struktura vlastnictví byla uvedena pomocí koncentrace vlastnictví a typu vlastnictví. Finanční výkonnost byla indikována pomocí návratnosti aktiv. Statistická analýza ukázala, že koncentrace vlastnictví v lineární formě byla negativně a významně korelována s finanční výkonností. V křivočaré podobě bylo shledáno, že spojení s návratností aktiv je negativní a statisticky nevýznamné. Neparametrický Mann-Whitney U test ukazuje, že vliv typu vlastníka na finanční výkonnost kontrolovaných komerčních bank je statisticky významný. To znamená, že typ vlastníka ovlivňuje finanční výkonnost komerčních bank hodnocených v této studii. Studie prokázala, že když velikost firmy zasáhla do vztahu mezi návratností aktiv a koncentrací vlastnictví, korelace zůstala v lineární formě záporná, ale stala se statisticky nevýznamná, zatímco ve křivočaré podobě se vztah nezměnil. Když velikost firmy zasáhla do vztahu mezi návratností aktiv a typem vlastnictví, nebyl vliv typu vlastníka na návratnost aktiv statisticky významný. Tato zjištění se vztahovala na tuzemský i zahraniční typ vlastníka.

Abstract:

The question of the optimal ownership structure has been debated over the last few decades by academicians across the globe. However, thus far no generally valid results have been reached on the question of the effect of the ownership structure on firm performance. This thesis aimed to investigate the effect of ownership structure on the performance of commercial banks in the Czech Republic. Ownership structure was indicated using ownership concentration and ownership type. The financial performance was indicated using return on assets. The statistical analysis showed that ownership concentration in linear form was negatively and significantly correlated with financial performance. In the curvilinear form the association with return on assets was found to be negative and statistically insignificant. The non-parametric Mann-Whitney U test shows that the effect of owner type on financial performance of the commercial banks reviewed is statistically significant. This means that the type of owner affects the financial performance of the commercial banks evaluated in this study. The study established that when firm size intervened in the relationship between return on assets and ownership concentration, in the linear form the correlation remained negative but became statistically insignificant while in the curvilinear form the relationship did not change. When firm size intervened in the relationship between return on assets and ownership type, the effect of owner type on return on assets was not statistically significant. These findings applied for both the domestic and foreign owner type.
