Achievement Motivation and Self Esteem

Abstract:

Má diplomová práce pojednává o problematice výkonové motivace a sebehodnocení. V první části jsem se snažila nastínit teoretická východiska těchto fenoménů. Cílem empirické části bylo nalezení souvislostí mezi sebehodnocením a výkonovou motivací s důrazem na mezipohlavní rozdíly. Výzkumu se účastnilo 109 osob. Pro měření výkonové motivace byl použit dotazník motivace výkonu (DMV), který se skládal ze škály motivu výkonu, anxiozity brzdící výkon a anxiozity podporující výkon. Sebehodnocení bylo měřeno Škálou sebepřijetí a kompetentností revidovaná verze (SLCS- R), vycházející z pojetí sebehodnocení jako dvojdimenzionálního konstruktu autorů Tafarodiho a Swanna. Škála se skládá ze subškál sebepřijetí a kompetentnost. Výsledky naznačují pozitivní korelaci mezi škálou motiv výkonu a oběma složkami sebehodnocení, negativní vztah byl nalezen mezi anxiozitou brzdící výkon a oběma složkami sebehodnocení. Žádný vztah nebyl nalezen v souvislosti s anxiozitou podporující výkon. Muži a ženy se statisticky významně lišili pouze v míře anxiozity brzdící výkon. Ženy dosahovaly vyšších skórů než muži.

Abstract:

My thesis deals with issues of achievement motivation and self esteem. In the first part of the work I tried to outline theoretical bases of these phenomenons. The purpose of the empirical part was to find linkages between achievement motivation and self esteem with emphasis on gender differences. A hundred and nine interviewers took part in this research. For measuring of achievement motivation the achievement motivation inventory (AMI) was used which contained these three scales: the achievement motive scale, anxiety hindering achievement scale and anxiety supporting achievement scale. Self esteem was measured using The Self-Liking/Self-Competence Scale revised version (SLCS- R) based on conception of self esteem as a two-dimensional construct of authors Tafarodi and Swann. The scale consists of two subscales - self liking and self competence. The results indicate positive correlation between the achievement motive scale and both elements of self esteem, the negative relationship was found between anxiety hindering achievement and both elemnts of self esteem. There was no relationship found in connection with the axiety supporting achievement. Men and women varie significantly only in anxiety hindering achievement. Women achieved higher scores then men.
