The European Parliament and its Task in the European Union

Abstract:

Teoretická část bakalářské práce představuje stručně Evropskou unii a evropské instituce, podává jejich charakteristiku a seznamuje s činností. Druhá část je věnována jen Evropskému parlamentu, příčinám jeho vzniku, popisu jeho vývoje od Evropského společenství uhlí a oceli až po Parlament v dnešní době, kdy se přijímá Lisabonská strategie. Dále jsou popsány pravomoci Evropského parlamentu: legislativní, rozpočtová a kontrolní. Následuje rozčlenění Evropského parlamentu do politických frakcí. Popsání jak se frakce utvářejí, jaký mají význam pro Evropský parlament, jejich vývoj a také stručné představení nynějších politických frakcí v Evropském parlamentu. Zmínka je také o poslancích Evropského parlamentu. Práce se zaměřuje na stručnou charakteristiku Evropského parlamentu a postupné posilování jeho pravomocí v Evropské unii. Formou ankety bylo také zjišťováno, jestli je informovanost o Evropském parlamentu dostatečná. Z výsledků vyplynulo, jak je nízké povědomí lidí o Evropském parlamentu, což byl jeden z cílů této práce. V závěru jsou pak shrnuty hlavní poznatky v průběhu zpracování a celkové zhodnocení dané problematiky.

Abstract:

The theoretical part of this bachelor thesis introduces shortly the European Union and European institutions, gives their characteristics and informs about their activities. The second part is devoted only to the European Parliament, to the reasons for the origin, it describes its development from the European Steel and Coal Community up to the Parliament nowadays, when the Lisabon strategy is being accepted. Futher I describe the competence of the European Parliament: legislative, budgetary and control. After that the division of the European Parliament into political fractions follows. I also describe how the fractions are formed, their significance, development and their brief introduction. I also mention the members of parliament. The thesis focuses on the brief characteristics of the European Parliament and the strengthening of its competence in the European Union. An inquiry by means of questionaire tried to find out, if the awareness of people of the European Parliament is sufficient. From the results arise, that the awareness among people is very low, which was one of the goals of this thesis. In the conclusion I summarize the main findings during the elaboration and I evaluate the overall issues.
