The impact of immigration on the Czech labour market

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce se zabývá vlivem imigrace na český pracovní trh. První kapitola přináší teoretický úvod do problematiky migrace a definuje základní pojmy. Dále se zabývá i základními oblastmi z ekonomie, popisuje trh práce, nezaměstnanost a mzdy a přináší shrnutí dosavadních poznatků z literatury týkající se vlivu imigrace na tyto oblasti. V neposlední řadě představuje teorii vysvětlující důvody, které jsou pro migranty rozhodují při zvažování přesunu do jiné země. Druhá kapitola se zabývá charakteristikami imigrantů přicházejících do České republiky a popisuje jejich sociálně-demografickou strukturu. Třetí kapitola popisuje vývoj imigrační politiky České republiky od jejího vzniku až po současnost. Zahrnuje i dimenzi Evropské unie a relevantní směrnice týkající se problematiky migrace, pro kterou jsou společná pravidla v EU. Čtvrtou kapitolu tvoří vlastní výzkum týkající se vlivu imigrace na český pracovní trh, se zaměřením na změny v nezaměstnanosti, změny ve mzdách a na nedostatkové sektory. Zkoumány jsou vybrané sektory, a to zpracovatelský průmysl, stavebnictví a administrativní a podpůrné činnosti. Výzkum obnáší porovnání podílu cizinců v jednotlivých vybraných sektorech s vývojem nezaměstnanosti a průměrné hrubé měsíční mzdy v těchto sektorech. Jako nedostatkové sektory byly vybrány ty sektory s dlouhodobě nejvyšší mírou volných pracovních míst. Porovnáván je pak podíl cizinců v nedostatkových sektorech s vývojem míry volných pracovních míst v těchto sektorech. Dosažené poznatky jsou shrnuty v závěru práce.

Abstract:

The bachelor thesis deals with the influence of immigration on the Czech labour market. The first chapter provides a theoretical introduction to the issue of migration and defines essential terms. It also deals with basic areas of economics, describes the labour market, unemployment, and wages, and provides a summary of current knowledge from the literature regarding the impact of immigration on these areas. Finally, it presents a theory explaining the reasons that are decisive for migrants when considering moving to another country. The second chapter deals with the characteristics of immigrants coming to the Czech Republic and describes their socio-demographic structure. The third chapter describes the development of the Czech Republic's immigration policy from its inception to the present day. It also includes the dimension of the European Union and the relevant directives regarding the issue of migration, for which there are common rules in the EU. The fourth chapter consists of own research regarding the impact of immigration on the Czech labour market, focusing on changes in unemployment and wages and shortage sectors. Selected sectors are examined: Manufacturing, Construction, and Administrative and support activities. The research includes comparing the share of foreigners in individual selected sectors with the development of unemployment and average gross monthly wages in these sectors. The sectors with the highest long-term vacancy rates were selected as shortage sectors. The share of foreigners in sectors with shortages is then compared with the development of the rate of job vacancies in these sectors. The knowledge gained is summarized in the conclusion of the work.
