In the Labyrinth of Fears. The literary work of Marianne Gruber.

Abstract:

This dissertation examines the function of the concept of fear in the literary works of the Austrian author Marianne Gruber. The aim is to explore the motif of fear and its forms in specific literary texts, whether lyrical or epic. Marianne Gruber, who was influenced by the existential psychotherapy of her mentor Viktor Frankl during her studies, has transferred her findings into her own literary work. Her literary texts also reveal an inspiration from psychology, especially Sigmund Freud's thesis that fear is only a signal of deeper problems in the individual. In order to use fear as an existential motif methodically, it is necessary to work with fear from a philosophical perspective. Fear, absurdity and the search for the meaning of life are existential themes of Albert Camus, whose philosophical-literary work will serve as the background for most of Marianne Gruber's literary analyses.

Abstract:

Tato disertační práce zkoumá, jakou funkci plní pojetí strachu v literárním díle rakouské autorky Marianne Gruber. Cílem je prozkoumat motiv strachu a jeho podoby v konkrétních literárních textech, ať už lyrických nebo epických. Marianne Gruber, kterou během studií ovlivnila existenciální psychoterapie jejího mentora Viktora Frankla, přenesla své poznatky do vlastní literární tvorby. Její literární texty také prozrazují inspiraci psychologií, zejména tezí Sigmunda Freuda, že strach je pouze signálem hlubších problémů jedince. Pro metodické využití strachu jako existenciálního motivu je nezbytné pracovat se strachem i z filozofické perspektivy. Strach, absurdita a hledání smyslu života jsou existenciální témata Alberta Camuse, jehož filozoficko-literární dílo bude sloužit jako pozadí většiny literárních analýz děl Marianne Gruber.
