Investice do malých vodních elektráren je i dnes ekonomicky velmi výhodná. Vzhledem k evropským a státním dotacím je doba návratnosti investice do MVE mnohdy poloviční, než jakou garantuje stát, resp. Energetický regulační úřad. Nowadays, investments to small hydroelectric power stations are still highly profitable. Return on investment of a small hydroelectric power station is frequently half the period guaranteed by the state or by energy regulatory authority (Energy Regulatory Office, ERO).
