Content and Language Integrated Learning as a Way to Increase Effectivity and Engagement In Online Lessons

Abstract:

Cílem této diplomové práce bylo zjistit, jestli by obsahově a jazykově integrovaná výuka (CLIL) poskytla řešení na současné dění a problémy ve výuce, způsobené zejména celosvětovou pandemií a pozastavením prezenční výuky. Ústřední hypotézou bylo to, že implementace CLILu zvýší zapojení a motivaci žáků, i efektivitu výuky, čímž by se vynahradila omezená časová dotace v době plošné online výuky v České republice. Cílovou skupinou byly žáci nižších gymnázií nebo druhého stupně základní školy, hlavně devátých tříd. Výzkumu se zúčastnila dvě gymnázia a čtyři základní školy v Brně. Výsledky výzkumu naznačují, že je zde tendence, že žáci na CLIL reagují vesměs pozitivně a ve většině případů se prokázala zvýšená aktivita a zapojenost žáků, stejně jako zvýšení efektivity. Některé školy, které se zúčastnily výzkumu, uvedly, že již metodu ve svých hodinách uplatňují, což mohlo mít vliv na celkové vyhodnocení výsledků výzkumu. Nicméně se CLIL prokázal jako potenciální vhodné řešení na současné problémy ve výuce, ale je zřejmé, že je nutno věc dále vyšetřit navazujícím výzkumem.

Abstract:

The aim of the thesis was to determine whether Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) provides a suitable solution to the current challenges in education caused by the world’s pandemic. The hypothesis was that the integration of language and content would increase learners’ engagement and effectivity of the lessons, therefore compensate for the time constraints caused by the imposed online schooling throughout the Czech Republic. The target group was lower secondary students, and it was researched at two grammar schools and four elementary schools in Brno. The findings of the thesis indicate a tendency of learners to react positively on CLIL and the results mostly showed an increase in engagement and effectivity of the lessons. However, some schools, which participated in the research, claimed they had implemented the methodology, which might have affected the final findings. Nevertheless, the methodology seems to be a potentially suitable solution for the recent challenges in online education, but a further research would be necessary.
