Impact of education of parents on children’s educational success

Abstract:

Práce zkoumá vliv vzdělání rodičů na studijní výsledky dětí. Hlavním cílem práce je nalezení faktorů, které způsobují nerovnosti ve vzdělání, díky jejich identifikaci zlepšit individuální přístup k dětem, a tím pomoci zvýšit jejich šance na pracovním trhu. Práce přispívá k rychlému rozpoznání sociálně znevýhodněného žáka a tím pro něho zajistit co nejrychleji podporu tak, aby se mohl plně účastnit života ve společnosti a měl přístup ke všem jejím zdrojům. Data k práci byla získána pomocí dotazníkového šetření, kterého se účastnili rodiče dětí z druhých až pátých tříd na základní škole v Praze. Výsledky vícenásobné regresní analýzy ukazují, že počet sourozenců v rodině, místo bydliště a mzda otce jsou významnými faktory, působícími na prospěch dětí. Dále se v analýze ukázalo, že vzdělání rodičů přímo neovlivňuje studijní výsledky dětí.

Abstract:

This study analyses the effect of education of parents on children’s educational success. The main benefit of this study is founding of the factors, causing the educational inequalities. The identification of this factors helps to improve the individual attitude to children and thereby increasing their chances on the labor market. This work contributes to quick recognition of the socially disadvantaged pupil. This recognition allows provide him a support for full participation in the society and access to all resources. The data was obtained using a questionnaire survey, in which parents of children from the second to the fifth grade in Prague, took part. The results of the multiple regression analysis shows, that number of siblings in the family, place of residence and father’s wage are significant factors, that works for the benefit of the children. The analysis also shows, that education of parents do not directly affect educational succes of their children.
