Academic Procrastination and its Negative Impact on University Students

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se zabývá fenoménem akademické prokrastinace a jeho negativními dopady na vysokoškolské studenty, konkrétně na studenty Fakulty humanitních studií ve Zlíně. Diplomová práce je členěna do dvou částí: části teoretické a části praktické. Teoretická část se zaměřuje na popis a charakteristiku prokrastinace s důrazem na její specifickou formu - akademickou prokrastinaci, dále na popis negativních dopadů akademické prokrastinace zaměřené na studium, sociální vztahy a zdraví. Teoretickou část uzavírá nástin možných forem zvládání prokrastinace a poradenství v akademickém prostředí. Praktická část se zabývá výzkumem fenoménu prokrastinace v akademickém prostředí, s cílem zjištění vykazované míry akademické prokrastinace a vykazovaných negativních dopadů akademické prokrastinace u respondentů, a to v oblastech studia, sociálních vztahů a zdraví. Průběh a výsledky výzkumu vyhodnocují závěrečné kapitoly praktické části diplomové práce.

Abstract:

The diploma thesis adresses the phenomenon of academic procrastination and its negative impacts on university students, particularly students of the Faculty of Humanities in Zlín. The diploma thesis is divided into two parts: the theoretical and the practical part. The theoretical part focuses on the description and characteristics of procrastination with the emphasis on its specific form - academic procrastination and a further description of the negative impacts of academic procrastination aimed at studying, social relationships and health. The theoretical part is concluded by the outlined possible forms of procrastination and consultation in the academic environment. The practical part examines the research of the phenomenon of procrastination in the academic environment, with the aim of determining the reported level of academic procrastination and reported negative impacts of academic procrastination among respondents in the areas of study, social relationships and health. The progress and results of the research are outlined in the evaluation in the final chapters of the practical part of the thesis.
