Letter of Credit in the International Trade

Abstract:

Cílem bakalářské práce bylo charakterizovat dokumentární akreditiv z pohledu jeho historie a vývoje, rámcově jej definovat a uvést jeho nejznámější druhy. Záměrem práce byl také rozbor průběhu akreditivní transakce a zamyšlení se nad budoucností dokumentárního akreditivu v současných podmínkách vyspělého bankovního a finančního systému, mezinárodního obchodu, ekonomické integrace a globalizace trhu. Dokumentární platební styk hraje v oblasti financování zahraničního obchodu klíčovou roli již dlouhou dobu. Mezi nejčastěji využívané způsoby mezinárodních plateb řadíme hladký plat, dokumentární akreditiv, dokumentární inkaso a vystavení směnky či šeku. Dokumentární akreditiv patří mezi nejstarší bankovní instrumenty vůbec a jeho počátky sahají až do 15. - 16. století. Dokumentární platby jsou pro vývozce jednoznačně kladnou příležitostí jak dostát svým cílům a eliminovat rizika obchodů na zahraničních trzích. Dokumentární akreditiv, přestože patří k jedněm z nejstarších bankovních platebních instrumentů, hraje ve světě trade finance stále nezastupitelnou roli. Přesto, že v práci nejsou vzhledem k šíři zvolené problematiky vyčerpány veškeré možnosti a způsoby využití dokumentárního akreditivu, je i tak zřejmé, nakolik je oblast dokumentárního akreditivu zajímavá a jak může být akreditiv mnohem více využíván na poli mezinárodního obchodu. I když jeho význam v zahraničním obchodu se vznikem a vývojem nových produktů, jako jsou faktoring nebo úvěrové pojištění poněkud poklesl, zůstává stále dominantním způsobem jakým je placeno za zboží. Jde o stále živý platební instrument, který se dále dynamicky rozvíjí tak, aby odpovídal novým potřebám uživatelů v podmínkách současného technologického rozvoje a postupující globalizace mezinárodních trhů.

Abstract:

The aim of his bachelor work was to characterize the documentary letter of credit with a view to its history and development, provide its general definition and describe its best-known kinds. The intention of this work was also to analyse the procedure of the letter of credit transaction and consideration of the future of the documentary letter of credit in the current conditions of the highly developed banking and financial system, international trade, economic integration and globalization of the market. Documentary payment interaction has played a key role in the field of the financing of the foreign trade for a long time. Among the most commonly used methods of the international payment there are swift payment, documentary letter of credit, documentary collection and bill or check issuance. Documentary letter of credit belongs among the oldest banking instruments of all and its origin goes back to the 15th - 16th centuries. Documentary payments represent a good opportunity for the exporters to achieve their aims and eliminate the risks of the business transactions at the foreign markets. Documentary letter of credit, even if it belongs among the oldest banking payment instruments, still plays an essential role in the area of trade finance. Despite the fact that not all possibilities and ways of using the documentary letter of credit have been analysed in detail because of the extent of this work, it is self-evident how interesting the field of the documentary letter of credit is and how it can be more widely used in the field of international trade. Even if the importance of the documentary letter of credit in the international trade slightly decreased due to the emergence and development of new products like factoring or credit insurance, it is still a dominant way of paying for goods. Documentary letter of credit is a viable payment instrument which is developing dynamically in order to meet new demands of the users in the context of the current technological development and advancing globalization of the international markets.
