Evaluation of voluteering by HR managers during recruitment for managerial positions

Abstract:

Vývoj společnosti se odráží mimo jiné ve změnách hodnot. Jednou z těchto změn je vyšší inklinace k filantropii a pomoci, projevující se kupříkladu rostoucím počtem dobrovolníků. Práce si klade za cíl zjistit, jakým způsobem personalisté informaci o dobrovolnické činnosti uchazeče o manažerskou pozici hodnotí. Zároveň zkoumá, jak tato informace vstupuje do jejich rozhodování. Pro účely výzkumu bylo realizováno šest polostrukturovaných rozhovorů s personalisty osobně odpovědnými za nábor na manažerské pozice. V průběhu rozhovorů byl proveden jednoduchý experiment s výňatky z životopisů imaginárních uchazečů. Bylo zjištěno, že dobrovolnictví je vnímáno jako sekundární kritérium, jehož významnost však bude s ohledem na mezigenerační výměnu a změnu hodnot stoupat. V současnosti vstupuje do rozhodování ve vztahu k vlastnostem a schopnostem, které napomáhá rozvíjet, a konkrétní náplni práce na dané pozici.

Abstract:

The development of society is reflected, among other things, in changes in values. One of these changes is a greater inclination towards philanthropy and aid, manifested for example in the growing number of volunteers. The aim of the work is to find out how HR professionals evaluate information about the volunteering activities of a candidate for a managerial position. At the same time, it examines how this information enters into their decision-making. For the purposes of the research, six semi-structured interviews were conducted with HR personnel personally responsible for recruitment to managerial positions. During the interviews, a simple experiment was conducted with excerpts from the CVs of imaginary applicants. It was found that volunteerism is perceived as a secondary criterion, but its significance will increase with regard to intergenerational exchange and change of values. At present, it enters into decision-making in relation to the characteristics and abilities that it helps to develop, and the specific content of the work in the given position.
