Sources of spiritual identity. Yoga and tai-chi in Mikulov

Abstract:

Tato práce je interpretací dat získaných kvalitativním výzkumem v Mikulově, kterého jsem se zúčastnil. Většina dat, která používám, pochází pouze ze dvou mikulovských skupin, z kvalitativních rozhovorů jógy a tai-či. Práce se týká vztahu modernity a jejího vlivu na konstrukci spirituální identity. Zaměřuji se na modernitu a jejími procesy způsobené změny, které ovlivnily formování osobní religiozity. Proto se zabývám také teorií sekularizace a její kritikou, růstem individualizované a privatizované religiozity. Detailně se pak zabývám tématem New Age a konceptem spirituality. Teoretická reflexe vztahu modernity a religiozity tvoří první část práce. V druhé části analyzuji data získaná z mikulovského výzkumu. Prostřednictvím analýzy rozhovorů vedených s respondenty ze skupin jógy a tai-či zkoumám zdroje spirituální identity, které jsem určil na základě nejčastěji zmíněných společných informací týkajících se tématu spirituální identity informátorů. Zdroje, které jsem určil, vychází z témat, která respondenti zdůrazňovali: reflexivní kritika důsledků modernity, reflexivní vnímání těla a retrospektivní potvrzení identity.

Abstract:

The thesis is an interpretation of research materials from a qualitative research in Mikulov. The aim of this research was to map and interpret the spiritual and the religious (institutional) scene in Mikulov. For the analysis the researcher uses mainly the data of qualitative interviews from two spiritual groups and also his own fieldnotes. The first is a yoga group and the second is a tchai-ti group. A critical reflection of modernity and religion presented in the first part. Also the modernity’s influence to the process of formation of spiritual identity is set forth. Because of the theme of this theme the paper also deals with the process of secularisation and it’s critique and with the increase of individualised religion and privatised religiosity. The second part contains the analysis of interviews from the research in Mikulov. The interpretation of the sources of spiritual identity is set forth on the basis of the interviews. The sources of spiritual identity were defined in three themes based on reflexive critique of some consequences of modernity, reflexive perception of one’s own body and the retrospective confirmation of identity.
