Abstract:

Práce se zabývá analýzou detektivních románů Iana Rankina – The Black Book, A Question of Blood a Standing in Another Man´s Grave, vydaných na přelomu tisíciletí ve třech po sobě jdoucích desetiletích. Skrze analýzu vybraných románů je zkoumán obraz skotské společnosti a současného Edinburghu. Nejprve je čtenáři představen samotný autor, styl jeho práce a motivace k psaní detektivních románů ze skotského hlavního města. Dále jsou představena jednotlivá díla a jejich hlavní motivy, které se promítají do všech tří období, čímž je umožněna analýza vývoje jednotlivých jevů. Nejvýraznější témata se týkají skotské společnosti a života ve městě, také poukazují na problémy s infrastrukturou a přestavbou Edinburghu, který se proměňuje v moderní město 21. století. Na úvodní část navazuje literární analýza, která se věnuje jednotlivým tématům a jejich vývojem. Tato opakující se témata se týkají změny v myšlení a sebevědomí mladé generace, v otázkách tradičního uspořádání rodiny a místa žen ve společnosti, autor též nabízí sondu do stravovacích návyků ve Skotsku, s nimiž je spojen nárůst obezity v zemi. Část této kapitoly se též zabývá vegetariánstvím, které se v zemi těší velké popularitě. Poslední část je zaměřena na samotný Edinburgh a jeho transformaci. S nárůstem obyvatel a turistickou popularitou jsou spojeny problémy zejména s infrastrukturou a novou výstavbou. Pozornost je věnována projektu tramvajové sítě, který měl být řešením palčivého dopravního problému, avšak vyústil pouze v jednu trať spojující město a letiště. V otázce nové výstavby je pozornost věnována revitalizaci části města a mimořádné budově Skotského parlamentu.

Abstract:

This paper deals with an analysis of crime fiction novel by Ian Rankin - The Black Book, A Question of Blood a Standing in Another Man´s Grave, released at the turn of the millennium in three consecutive decades. Through the analysis of the chosen novel the portrait of the Scottish society and contemporary Edinburgh is studied. Firstly, the author himself, the style of his work and motivation to write the detective novels from the Scottish capital are introduced. The three novels and their motives, thus enable the analysis of development of these phenomena are then presented. The most significant motives deal with the Scottish society and life in the city and also refer to the problems with infrastructure and reconstruction of Edinburgh as it transforms into a modern city of the 21st century. The opening part is followed by the literary analysis, which delves into particular topics and their development. These topics are related to the young generation and the changes in their way of thinking and their confidence; the question of family and the status of woman in the society; the author also reveals the eating habits in Scotland and their connection the country’s growing obesity. Part of this chapter also covers vegetarianism which has become very popular. The final part focuses on Edinburgh and its transformation. There are problems connected to the growth in the number of inhabitants and tourist popularity including the infrastructure and new constructions. The focus lies on the tram project, which was supposed to be a solution to the long-term traffic problem resulting in a single tram line connecting the city and the airport. Attention is also called to the revitalization of the city and the extraordinary building of the Scottish Parliament.
