Adaptation to spinal cord injury

Abstract:

Diplomová práce „Adaptace na následky úrazu s poraněním míchy“ se věnuje situaci osob, které jsou po úrazu trvale upoutáni na ortopedický vozík a musí se vyrovnat se změnou své životní situace. Ukazuje, jaké jsou jejich životní ztráty, jaká je úloha rehabilitace a sociálních služeb při návratu do běžného života a co všechno má vliv na kvalitu jejich života. Pomocí vybraných teorií mapuje práce celý adaptační a socializační proces a zaměřuje se i na specifické potřeby, které úrazem nastanou. Věnuje se způsobům, kterými je možné tyto potřeby kompenzovat, aby člověk dospěl k úspěšné adaptaci, kdy je srovnán se svým úrazem a vede hodnotný život. Empirická část je založena na rozhovorech s lidmi po úrazu s poraněním míchy, které jim způsobilo paraplegii nebo kvadruplegii.

Abstract:

The thesis „Adaptation to spinal cord injury“, deals with the situation of people who are permanently confined to a wheelchair after injury and have to cope with a change of their life situation. It shows what their losses are, what the role of rehabilitation and social services is when they return to normal life and what affects their quality of life. By selected theories the thesis presents the entire adaptation and socialization process. It focuses on the specific needs that occur after the accident and ways those needs can be compensated so the person can achieve successful adaptation when compared to their injury and lead worthwile life. The empirical part is based on interviews with people after spinal cord injury, which caused paraplegia or quadriplegia.
