International Trade in Live Animals

Abstract:

Cílem této bakalářské práce je analyzovat mezinárodní obchod se živými zvířaty a vystihnout jeho současné trendy. Celá práce je zaměřena především na evropský trh a roli České republiky v legálním i nelegálním obchodě se zvířaty. Nejprve je nutné se seznámit s překážkami, které při obchodování s živými zvířaty existují. Jedná se zejména o mezinárodní úmluvy a regulace, které mají za cíl zabránit obchodování s ohroženými druhy zvířat. Překážkami obchodu i náročností přepravy zvířat se zabývá první kapitola práce. Náplní druhé kapitoly je legální obchod s hospodářskými zvířaty, domácími mazlíčky a divokými zvířaty, jeho trendy a shrnutí pozice České republiky na těchto trzích. Jelikož Evropská unie představuje největší cílovou destinaci pro nelegální obchod s živými zvířaty, bude se jím zabývat třetí kapitola. Ta popisuje také problémy, které z nelegálního obchodu vyplývají. Čtvrtá kapitola poskytne kontrast mezi teoretickými předpoklady mezinárodního obchodu se zvířaty, konkrétně se psy, a praktickou zkušeností chovatele. Poslední kapitola shrnuje poznatky nabyté během psaní této práce a přináší celistvý obraz mezinárodního obchodu se živými zvířaty.

Abstract:

The aim of this thesis is to analyse the international trade in live animals and describe its current trends. The whole thesis is focused on the European market and the role of the Czech Republic in both, legal and illegal trade. Firstly, it is necessary to introduce some of the barriers to trade in live animals, such as international regulations, which were adopted to prevent trade in endangered species. The difficulty of the transport is another factor distinguishing the trade in live animals from trade in other goods and will be described in the first chapter. The second chapter covers the legal trade in livestock, pets and wildlife, its trends and closer look at the position of the Czech Republic. The third chapter tackles the illegal trade in live animals, with the European Union as the world’s biggest destination market for wildlife trafficking. It also explains the problem arising from illegal trade. The next chapter provides an insight into the trade with dogs and all its requisites. The final chapter summarises the findings acquired during writing of the thesis.
