Bibliotherapy – The Contexts of Life with an Awareness of Death

Abstract:

Tato teoretická diplomová práce přibližuje biblioterapii z obecného hlediska jako psychoterapeutickou metodu, poté se zaměřuje na bibilioterapii s dětmi. V Části I. se autorka zabývá historickými a teoretickými základy, principy a podstatou biblioterapie, užitím v psychoterapii v Německu a terapií poezií. Zvláštní zřetel je v celé práci kladen na kontext logoterapie a existenciální analýzy, což se na obsahové úrovni odráží v zařazení kapitol o biblioterapii se seniory, s lidmi závažně nemocnými, umírajícími a o vzdělávání dětí o smrti (death education). Část II. se koncentruje na biblioterapii dětí v krizových situacích, dětí onkologicky nemocných, na vývoj konceptu smrti u dětí, na death education a biblioterapii s dětmi po ztrátě někoho blízkého. Práce je doprovázena několika kazuistikami a četnými ukázkami biblioterapeutických textů s cílem nabídnout čtenářům možnosti aplikace přečteného ve vlastní (psychologické, psychoterapeutické apod.) práci s klienty či (v některých případech také) v souvislostech osobního života. Smyslem práce je představit české společnosti – a to odborné (tj. psychologům, psychoterapeutům, pedagogům, sociálním pracovníkům a dalším pomáhajícím profesím) i laické (např. rodičům, rodinným příslušníkům závažně nemocných atd.) biblioterapii a způsoby jejího využití u seniorů, závažně nemocných, umírajících lidí, u dětí v krizových situacích, zejména pak u dětí s onkologickým onemocněním, u dětí po ztrátě někoho blízkého a v rámci vzdělávání dětí o smrti.

Abstract:

This theoretical master thesis first outlines bibliotherapy from the general point of view as a psychotherapeutic method and then goes on to focus at bibliotherapeutic work with children. In Part One the author deals with historical and theoretical foundations, principles, and the gist of bibliotherapy, the use of bibliotherapy in Germany, and poetry therapy. In the whole work, special attention is paid to the context of logotherapy and existential analysis, which is reflected in the inclusion of chapters on bibliotherapeutic work with the elderly, seriously ill and dying people, and on death education for children. Part Two concentrates on bibliotherapeutic work with children dealing with crisis situations and with children suffering from oncological diseases, the development of the concept of death in childhood, death education and bibliotherapeutic work with children after the loss of a close relative or friend. Several case studies and bibliotherapeutic texts have been included in this work with the aim to offer the readers an oportunity to apply what they have read in their own (psychological, psychotherapeutic, etc.) work with clients or (in some cases) in the context of their personal lives. The purpose of this work is to introduce bibliotherapy and its applications in working with the elderly, seriously ill and dying people, children in crisis, and especially with oncologically ill children and bereaved children, to the Czech public – both professional (i.e. to psychologists, psychotherapeutists, pedagogues, social workers, and other related professions), and to the general public (i.e. to parents, relatives of seriously ill people, etc.).
