Financial literacy of senior high school students

Abstract:

Práce se zabývá úrovní znalostí finanční gramotnosti studentů maturitních ročníků na různých typech středních škol v Mostě. Úroveň znalostí finanční gramotnosti studentů středních škol po celém světě je dlouhodobě nízká. Nedostatečná úroveň znalostí finanční gramotnosti ztěžuje studentům zodpovědné finanční rozhodování během studia, ale především po ukončení školy. Obyvatelé Mostu mohou být kvůli sociálním a ekonomickým problémům ohroženou skupinou v oblasti finanční gramotnosti a z toho důvodu je v tomto regionu důležitá výuka finanční gramotnosti na středních školách. Hlavním cílem práce je zhodnotit míru rozdílnosti ve znalostech finanční gramotnosti mezi studenty maturitních ročníků středních škol za účelem vyrovnání úrovně znalostí finanční gramotnosti na středních školách. Dílčím cílem práce je zhodnotit závislost úrovně znalostí finanční gramotnosti na pohlaví, studijním prospěchu, nejvyšším dosaženém vzdělání rodičů studentů a pracovních zkušenostech studentů. Výzkum proběhl na gymnáziu, zdravotní, technické a ekonomické střední škole v Mostě pomocí dotazníkového šetření, které obsahovalo převážně vědomostní otázky. Průměrná úroveň znalostí finanční gramotnosti studentů středních škol v Mostě byla téměř 60 %. Nejlepších výsledků dosáhli studenti gymnázia, studenti ekonomické střední školy dosáhli téměř nejhorších výsledků. Mezi studenty gymnázia a ekonomické střední školy byl v úrovni znalostí finanční gramotnosti rozdíl 11 procentních bodů. Podle úrovně znalostí finanční gramotnosti studentů gymnázia byla určena nulová báze, která posloužila jako měřítko úrovně znalostí finanční gramotnosti studentů středních škol. Chí-kvadrát testem nezávislosti bylo potvrzeno, že úroveň znalostí finanční gramotnosti závisí na typu studované střední školy, pohlaví a studijním prospěchu. Na nejvyšším dosaženém vzdělání rodičů a pracovních zkušenostech studentů úroveň znalostí finanční gramotnosti nezávisí. Po porovnání s výsledky průzkumu OECD bylo zjištěno, že mostečtí maturanti dosahují průměrné úrovně znalostí finanční gramotnosti dospělé populace České republiky. Podle výsledků průzkumu PISA však mostečtí maturanti nedosahují průměrné úrovně znalostí finanční gramotnosti 15-letých žáků v ČR. Na základě zjištěné nízké úrovně znalostí finanční gramotnosti studentů byly školám doporučeny projekty pro podporu finančního vzdělávání.

Abstract:

The thesis investigates the level of financial literacy of the senior high school students in different types of high schools in the city of Most. The level of financial literacy of high school students around the world is long-term low. The insufficient level of financial literacy makes the responsible financial decision-making difficult for the students during their studies, but especially after graduation. The residents of Most could be vulnerable group of people due to social and economical problems, for this reason, the financial education on high schools is important in this region. The main aim of the thesis is to evaluate the degree of difference in level of financial literacy among the high school students. The partial aims of the thesis is evaluate the dependence of level of financial literacy on gender, study results, the highest education level of students' parents and work experiences of students. The research took place at a grammar school, a medical, a technical, and an economics school in Most using a questionnaire survey, which contained mainly knowledge-based questions. The average level of knowledge of financial literacy of high school students in Most was almost 60 %. The best results were achieved by grammar school students, students of economic high school achieved almost the worst results. There was a difference of 11 percentage points in the level of knowledge of financial literacy between grammar school and economics high school students. According to the level of knowledge of financial literacy of grammar school students, a zero base was determined, which served as a measure of the level of financial literacy of high school students. The Chi-square test of independence confirmed that the level of knowledge of financial literacy depends on the type of high school studied, gender and study results. The level of knowledge of financial literacy does not depend on the highest education level of parents and work experiences of students. After comparing the results with the OECD survey, it was found, that senior high school students from Most achieve the same level of financial literacy as does the adult population of the Czech Republic on average. However, according to the results of the PISA survey, the students do not reach the average level of financial literacy of 15-year-old pupils in the Czech Republic. Based on the low level of financial literacy of the students, the projects to support financial education were recommended to the schools.
