Relationship between coping strategies and quality of family environment

Abstract:

Vztah kvality rodinného prostředí a vývoje dítěte byl již předmětem mnoha výzkumů. Cílem této bakalářské práce bylo prozkoumat vztah mezi styly rodičovské výchovy, partnerského statusu rodičů, mírou vnímaného rodinného sense of coherence a strategiemi zvládání stresu ve vynořující se dospělosti. Specificky bylo zkoumáno, zda jsou vysoká míra vřelosti, zapojení, kontroly a vnímaného rodinného sense of coherence pozitivními prediktory adaptivních copingových strategií a zda je rozchod rodičů prediktorem maladaptivních copingových strategií. Výzkumný soubor tvořilo 101 respondentů ve věku 20 až 30 let. Vztah mezi uvedenými proměnnými byl zkoumán pomocí dotazníku výchovných stylů z projektu SAHA (The Social and Health Assesment), Škály rodinného sense of coherence a dotazníku Brief COPE. Styly výchovy byly pro matku a otce zjišťovány zvlášť. Žádná z dimenzí výchovy otce se neukázala být prediktorem adaptivních copingových strategií. Jedinou dimenzí výchovy matky, která vykazovala s užíváním adaptivních copingových strategií statisticky významný vztah, byl zájem. Tento vztah však nebyl příliš těsný. Vysoká míra vnímaného rodinného sense of coherence se nepotvrdila jako prediktor adaptivních copingových strategií. Rozvod/rozchod rodičů se nepotvrdil jako prediktor maladaptivních copingových strategií.

Abstract:

The relationship between the quality of family environment and child development has been the subject of much research. The aim of this work was to examine the relationship between parenting styles, perceived family sense of coherence, parental relationship status and coping strategies in emerging adulthood. Specifically, it was examined whether high levels of parental warmth, involvement, control, and perceived family sense of coherence are positive predictors of adaptive coping strategies and whether parental separation is a predictor of maladaptive coping strategies. The research sample consisted of 101 respondents aged between 20 and 30 years old. The relationship between these factors was examined using the parenting styles questionnaire from the project SAHA (The Social and Health Assessment), the Family Sense of Coherence Scale and the Brief COPE questionnaire. Parenting styles were measured separately for the mother and father. None of the dimensions of paternal parenting were predictors of adaptive coping strategies. The only dimension that showed a statistically significant relationship with use of adaptive coping strategies was maternal involvement. However, this relationship was not very strong. High levels of family sense of coherence did not prove to be a predictor of adaptive coping strategies. Parental separation was not confirmed as a predictor of maladaptive coping strategies.
