The influence of long-term growth hormone replacement therapy on body composition, bone tissue and some metabolic parametres in adults with growth hormone deficiency

Abstract:

Ve studii jsou hodnoceny změny tělesného složení, kostní denzity a obsahu kostního minerálu, hladin lipidů a některých parametrů sacharidového metabolismu v průběhu dlouhodobé substituční terapie růstovým hormonem u osob s prokázaným těžkým somatotropním hypopituitarismem a přítomnými klinickými známkami syndromu deficitu růstového hormonu dospělých. Jsou sledovány nežádoucí účinky této terapie. Hodnocen je jednak celý soubor nemocných, dále podskupiny osob s deficitem GH vzniklým v dětství a v dospělosti a zvlášť je sledován efekt terapie u osob s významnou osteopenií a dyslipidémií před zahájením léčby. Cílem práce je prokázat pozitivní vliv substituční terapie GH a zhodnotit, zda z této léčby profitují více některé skupiny nemocných. Jsou sledovány nežádoucí účinky této terapie

Abstract:

The study evaluates changes in body composition, bone density and bone mineral contents, lipid levels and some parameters of sugar metabolism in the course of long-term growth hormone replacement therapy in patients with proven severe somatotropic hypopituitarism and with clinical symptoms of syndrome of adult growth hormone deficiency. Both the whole set of patients and subgroups of individuals with GH deficiency recognised in childhood and in the adult age are evaluated, and separate attention is given to the effect of therapy in patients with significant osteopenia and dyslipidemia prior to treatment. The objective of the study is to prove the positive effect of GH replacement therapy and to verify whether there are specific groups of patients who benefit more from the treatment than others. Adverse effects of the therapy are assessed.
